Named after a successful gold mining camp three miles to the north, Lucky Peak Dam has provided flood risk management of the Boise River for Idaho's Treasure Valley since 1954, preventing about $1.3 billion in flood damages.

A popular springtime attraction is the "Rooster Tail" which results from the discharge of water through the original release structures of the dam under pressure from the lake above.
Trying video on the blog...not sure if it'll work...

 Lunch in Lucky Peak park

Due to flooding, only nine miles (of the 30 mile greenbelt) were open

Beautiful views of the Boise River along the trail

Kayaking on Lake Lowell

 Beautiful sunny day...but windy!!

Very unique experience; kayaking through trees on Lake Lowell

The only reprieve from the wind was finding coves to rest

Our lunch stop across the lake...with the strong winds, it was an arduous task to get here!!

Waves crashing against the shore...now for the paddle back across the lake...ugh

Off to Oregon tomorrow!!

  1. Just so you know. I enjoy all the pictures, and the small bit of caption with each one. I think long term you will as well. I have many great pictures where I forget exactly where I was. ;-)

  2. Yes, I know what you mean. Half the time we forget where we are...let alone where a picture was taken. Now I just half to figure out how to download this blog onto a stick.
